How do I know if I over-amplified my sequencing library?

Library over-amplification results in the formation of heteroduplex and daisy-chained products in which strands of library molecules with non-complementary inserts are annealed to each other via the adapter sequences. When analyzed by electrophoresis, these heteroduplex and daisy-chained products migrate slower and appear as an additional peak larger than the expected library size.
